The Ultimate Guide to Garden Mulch: Red, Black, or Natural?

Mulching is the single best thing you can do for a low-maintenance garden. It suppresses weeds, retains moisture, and regulates soil temperature.

Red Woodchip

A favorite for modern contrast. The vibrant red color pops against green foliage and grey concrete paths. It's dyed with vegetable-based dyes, so it's safe for pets and kids.

Black Mulch

Sophisticated and sleek. Black mulch makes green plants look incredibly vibrant. It also absorbs heat, which can be beneficial in cooler months but requires monitoring in peak summer.

Natural Pine Bark

The classic choice. It breaks down slowly, feeding the soil over time. Perfect for native gardens and informal landscapes.

Tip: Apply mulch 75mm - 100mm thick. Any thinner and weeds will push through; any thicker and rain might not penetrate to the soil.
